MUSUQ PERU (or "New Peru" in Quechua), is a collection of four compositions by Jimmy López which is now available through FILARMONIKA LLC. Jimmy's music honors his Latin-American heritage while at the same time reflecting the multiculturalism and perpetual motion that shape modern life. All four works on this CD are world premiere recordings!
Jimmy López is one of the most renowned Peruvian composers of his generation. He recently obtained his Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy and is currently studying for a PhD at the University of California at Berkeley. He has won several international awards and his works are regularly performed both at home and abroad. He has received a number of commissions and is co-founder of kohoBeat Musical Association, a non-profit organization based in Finland.
His works has been performed by ensembles such as Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lima Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru; and in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Aspen Music Festival. He has recently won the 2009 GEORGES LADD PRIX DE PARIS (University of California at Berkeley), KRANICHSTEINER MUSIKPREIS at the '2008 Darmstadt International Course for Contemporary Music' (Germany), a 2008 NICOLA DE LORENZO PRIZE (UC Berkeley) and a 2008 MORTON GOULD YOUNG COMPOSER AWARD (ASCAP, New York).
