Jimmy López is one of Peru's most renowned composers. He holds a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy in Finland and is working towards a PhD at the University of California at Berkeley. He has won several international awards and his works are regularly performed both at home and abroad. He is vice-president of kohoBeat, a non-profit music organization based in Helsinki.
His works have been performed by ensembles such as Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru; and in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Darmstadt Music Festival, Donaueschingen Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and Tanglewood Music Festival. He was awarded the 'Kranichsteiner Musikpreis' at the "2008 Darmstadt International Course for Contemporary Music" (Germany) and more recently First Prize at the "Nicola de Lorenzo Music Composition Contest 2011" (University of California at Berkeley). Future projects include performances with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony orchestra. Mr. López is currently working on an orchestral piece commissioned by Radio France, which is going to be recorded by conductor Pierre-André Valade and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 2012.
Donaueschinger Musiktage 2009 Vol. 1
Jimmy Lopez's "Incubus III", for clarinet, percussion and electronics has been commercially released as part of a three-volume series that includes a selection of works from the 2009 Donaueschingen Contemporary Music Festival. Incubus III (tracks 6 to 11) was produced in cooperation with the SWR Experimental Studio Freiburg. This CD can be obtained through the NEOS label.

Now you can listen to Jimmy López's critically acclaimed "Fiesta!" in its world premiere recording by Miguel Harth-Bedoya and the the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. "Fiesta!" is included in INTI (tracks 10 to 13), the latest CD album of Caminos del Inka , and can be obtained through Filarmonika.
MUSUQ PERU
MUSUQ PERU (or "New Peru" in Quechua), is a collection of four compositions by Jimmy López which is available through Filarmonika. Jimmy's music honors his Latin-American heritage while at the same time reflecting the multiculturalism and perpetual motion that shape modern life. All four works on this CD are world premiere recordings.
