Jimmy López is one of Peru's most renowned young composers. He holds a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy in Finland and is working towards a PhD at the University of California at Berkeley. He has won several international awards and his works are regularly performed both at home and abroad. He is vice-president of kohoBeat, a non-profit music organization based in Helsinki.
His works have been performed by ensembles such as Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Lima Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru; and in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Darmstadt Music Festival, Donaueschingen Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and Tanglewood Music Festival. He was awarded the 'Kranichsteiner Musikpreis' at the '2008 Darmstadt International Course for Contemporary Music' (Germany) and the '2009 Georges Ladd Prix de Paris', awarded by UC Berkeley to pursue advanced studies in Paris during 2009-2010. Projects in 2010 have included performances by the Arditti Quartet, Jack Quartet, Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
